One of the most amazing experiences I have had in my travels around the world is VIVID in Sydney which happens in May. For 18 days the city becomes an open air playground of lights and technology while indoors, people flock to conferences to see where their ideas fit within our rapidly changing world. I interviewed one of the masterminds behind the event, Anthony Bastic, a gentile, humble man who created this fete of light and other mind blowing creations for events like the Sydney Olympics, which I attended. At the opening ceremonies of that event, I thought,“could anyone ever top this?” Well, he did with VIVID! We marvel at …
Alex Perry is a force. He’s fun to watch because he speaks his mind and doesn’t take himself too seriously. He does take his art seriously. I would imagine an attack on his character would not effect him as much as an attack on his fashions. He speaks as he thinks, which puts him in a back peddle situation from time to time, but he owns his mistakes and we forgive him. How many times was I told to think before I speak growing up by my mom? There is great merit in that as once words are said, they can never be retrieved. The key is to not over …

Congratulations to Manuel Mantoya! Take a look at his entry below: “My wife and I have tapped into happiness by opening our home and hearts to people from around the world. During the last twenty years we have had the privilege of hosting 14 International students in our home. Students from Iraq, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Turkey, Korea, Zimbabwe, Sweden, and China were given a home away from home to complete their education. We’ve shared moments of joy, heartache, and broke bread with young adults from diverse backgrounds and cultures. By sharing our home, we were able travel the globe through the hearts and stories of our “adopted” children. We’ve also …

“The tension between opposites is a challenge to resolve, but when this tension is successfully balanced, electricity is generated in the hand and in the heart — it is an expression of the soul. When a maker knows who he is in relationship to his world, the object made with this existential awareness will carry this knowledge into the hand and heart of the user; with eyes closed essence is still apparent. Working mostly with porcelain , bronze glass and steel, I am carrying a tradition forward that traces back many thousands of years. I want the user to feel the wisdom of the past and promises from a future yet to unfold… with past and …
